Les Arcs Diary - Week 10 Saturday 6th March It is snowing when I wake up but I am feeling unwell, but I drag myself out for a few hours boarding in excellent conditions. Friday 5th March Chris and I go out riding together and there is a good deal of powder around. I lose him early on when I dissapear into the trees. The light is very poor however, and the pistes very busy, so I cut short my day's boarding and save myself for tomorrow when they will be empty. Thursday 4th March Another sunny day and we really need some snow now. I go out with Chis for an hour at 9.00am - the pistes are refreshed with snow and are perfect - before meeting Yoko again and spend a couple of hours in the park, doing the red jumps and the red rail. In the evening a change of scene, down to Bar Oxygene with Chris for more drum and bass. It is really busy and a good night, and it is snowing by the time I walk home. Wednesday 3rd March I get up in time for my 2pm appointment to give a boarding lesson to a tourist I met last night but she doesn't turn up - too hungover I later learn. So I go out for a few runs with Kieron, purveyor of quality fast food from the Mont Blanc Snack Shack. The evening is spent in the Mont Blanc - again - as it is drum and bass night. I love my drum and bass! The weather closes in during the afternoon and we get some snow in the evening. Tuesday 2nd March I take Yoko, who works in Bar Oxygene in Plan Peisey, out for a boarding lesson. She has only done five days so I don't bother with any of my protective equipment and guess where she wants to go - the park. She boards like she's done five weeks and tries her hand at red jumps. The evening is the usual routine for Tuesday, Karaoke at the Mont Blanc followed by live music at The Marlu. This week I am mostly murdering Gary Glitter's "Leader Of The Gang". Monday 1st March Dan and Tamsin want to spend the day in Les Arcs so they drive me over with Jim, one of my roommates from Tignes. We spend most of the day in La Plagne where we have a sunny day and great snow. I take them on the off piste hike I did with Graeme last week, and get back to Vallandry for a few runs. Matt has moved out of the apartment and I have a new room-mate, Chris - a 20 year old surveyor from Kent. I take him up to the Mont Blanc in the evening to meet the crowd. Sunday 29th February I am still in Tignes but as I don't want to spend 38 euros on a lift pass I take the day off (I didn't buy a season pass for Tignes - wish I had now). Mind you, as it is -30c on the mountain I don't mind. Sunday night is seasonaires night in the Alpaka, and as it is owner Billy's birthday there is free champagne. |
